She walked to the shore as slowly as she could. If you saw her, you’d think she’s deep in thought. If you knew her, you’d think what an actress and if you were her, you wouldn’t be thinking.

She enjoyed the cold breeze which was supposedly warm compared to her heart. She thought of how lucky she was that she could walk up to a beach whenever she felt like it. Some people didn’t have beaches where they lived, let alone across their house.

The beach was crowded with kids playing catch and adults tanning themselves, but when you looked at her, you could feel the serenity of the beach. When you sized her up, you could feel the vulnerability which she surprisingly didn’t emit. It was weird because you could feel the vulnerability but it wasn’t hers.

She wasn’t wearing a cliché dress with her shoes in her hand or shorts and a tank top. It looked like she’d just woken up from sleep. You’ll know a pair of night clothes when you see one. She walked to where people would write their lovers’ names on the sand knowing very well that it’s going to wash away.

She gazes along as the saltwater seeps between her toes and rushes to meet her heels. She looks directly at the horizon, but she can’t spot the rising sun, she knew she wouldn’t cause the sun had already risen.

She was there, standing without a thought in her mind. Last night, as she was scrolling through her Instagram, she read something that caused her curious mind to rush down here in the morning.

Now, staring at the ocean she remembered the post, ‘The person you think about when you stare at the ocean is the person you love the most.’ She tries again; closes her eyes, waits for a second and opens them. She walks closer, her ankles deep in the water.

She stares at the calm ocean but nothing seems calm to her. She’s straining her brain to think about someone her boyfriend, her best friend, her dad. Anyone. But her mind comes up blank again. Her mind is on a completely different track.

Her mind was like a movie showing her about her. Showing her ups and downs like the rise and fall of the ocean waves. The sun shone on the waves but the water wasn’t hot; it was warm, like her life. That morning she realized that it isn’t always somebody else you’ll love the most. It’s you who’s been with yourself through everything in life. It’s you who walked step after step, it’s you who created this warmth in your life. It’s you who needs to love yourself the most.
